International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Test and ODI teams of the year 2016. ICC Test team of year 2016 is hugely dominated by Australian and England national team players. This article includes ICC Test squad of year 2016. We have also compiled a list of openers, middle order batsman, allrounders, pace and spin bowlers. Feel free to post your comments about squad selection and if you agree with current ICC Test team of the year 2016.

ICC Test Team of the Year 2016:

ICC test team 2016 will be led by England test skipper Alastair Cook. Team consists of 4 players from Australia, 4 players from England, 1 player from New Zealand, 1 player from India, 1 player from Sri Lanka and 1 player from South Africa. Opener David Warner is paired up with Alastair Cook and will open the innings in test match. Middle order is boosted by inclusion of Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Joe Root and Adam Voges. Jonny Bairstow is selected as wicket keeper, Ben Stokes and Ashwin as allrounders. Rangana Herath and Ashwin are also specialist spinners in ICC test team 2016. South African pace spearhead Dale Steyn along with Australian left arm pacer Mitchell Starc are two deadliest fast bowlers included in the test team.

Alastair Cook is appointed as test team captain for the third time by ICC. Dale Steyn made it to top 12 of ICC test team list for the eight time. It is the third appearance of David Warner, Joe Root and Kane Williamson in ICC test team. This test team is a combination of explosive and defensive batsman. Seam bowlers with best strike rate and spin bowlers with terrific spin are best component of team composition.

ICC Test Team of Year 2016

  1. David Warner (Australia)
  2. Alastair Cook (England)
  3. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)
  4. Steve Smith (Australia)
  5. Joe Root (England)
  6. Adam Voges (Australia)
  7. Jonny Bairstow (England)
  8. Ben Stokes (England)
  9. R. Ashwin (India)
  10. Rangana Herath (Sri Lanka)
  11. Mitchell Starc (Australia)
  12. Dale Steyn (South Africa)
Pakistan reached number 1 in ICC test ranking in 2016 but surprisingly not even a single player was able to make it to top 12 list. David Warner record in test matches this year wasn't that promising but he is still selected ahead of other quality openers. May be aggressive opening partner better suits along with Alastair Cook. Dale Steyn has been unfit for majority of the season and Cook poor batting record make these 2 players less likely to fit in the team.
