Dynamites beat Kings in BPL Final:
Dhaka Dynamites once again won Bangladesh Premier League title. It is Dhaka Dynamites third BPL Twenty20 league title. Dhaka Dynamites beat Rajshahi Kings in the final of the game by 56 runs at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Rajshahi Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Kings executed their plans well by un-settling Dhaka batsman in their innings. Only one of the top 4 batsman managed to reach double figures. Regular wickets kept building up pressure on Dynamites batsmen. Lewis scored a valuable knock of 45 runs as an opener. Sangakkara came to the rescue as middle order batsman and scored 36 runs to guide Dhaka Dynamites to 159/9 in 20 overs which is above average score at Mirpur.
A target of 160 runs in 20 overs was achievable and looked possible after Kings second wicket partnership lead them to 62 for 1 in 9 overs. Rajshahi Kings batting collapsed when they lost their last 9 wickets for only 41 runs. Kesrick Williams was struck on his elbow from a needless throw from Dwayne Bravo. Williams had to leave the field as retired hurt on 4 runs. According to Sammy, Sabbir run out in the final game was the turning point in the match. 97 runs were required from last 10 overs with 9 wickets in hands and once Sabbir was run out; rest of the batsman followed him one after an other. Kings were all out for 103 runs in 17.4 overs and Dynamites beat Kings to win BPL 2016 Cup.
Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib Al Hasan set the target of winning the BPL 2016 title right from the start of Twenty20 league. And the whole team worked hard to achieve the goal with good contribution from youngsters and a lot of support from experience players like Kumar Sangakara and Mahela Jayawardene. "There is always a bit of pressure," Shakib said. "We had a good team and everyone expected us to be champions. Sujon bhai [Mahmud] made it easier for us, and the senior players helped us. We didn't have to be tense. We had the experience and so whenever we wavered, we knew how to come back."
Darren Sammy was over all happy with performance of the team in BPL 2016. "I want to single out our franchise owners. I have heard of other players complaining about different stuff. Our owners were supportive. Even when we were in the bottom of the table, they believed in the team. It gave us motivation. As much as I am disappointed, I think they will be proud of what the team has achieved."
Andre Russell said, "Another trophy. I'm overwhelmed right now. I'm very excited. I know, our guys are happy as well. BPL is brilliant. We get fantastic support from the crowd here. They are amazing and they make you do even better. Thank you Bangladesh."
Sangakkara said, "I thought it was a great team performance and everybody contributed. Lewis was pretty unlucky to get out when he was threatening to go all out. Our entire tournament has never been about one individual player, it is a team effort that has seen us through. Even in the bowling I thought the way Sanzu bowled was outstanding. We felt we were 20 runs short but such things happen in finals. The wicket wasn't the easiest to play on but credit to Dhaka Dynamites for pulling it through."
