MS Dhoni achieve milestone of scoring 9000 ODI runs. Mahendra Singh Dhoni become the first batsman in ODI history to score 9000 runs with an average of over 51. Dhoni became third wicket keeper batsman to score 9000 runs in one day international matches but he is fastest to get to this landmark. Dhoni scored 6581 runs as a wicket keeper and captain of Indian one day international side which is remarkably good considering he has to take extra responsibility of keeping the wickets and leading the team at same time. For cricket India, MS Dhoni became 5th Indian batsman to score 9000 runs in ODI. Dhoni is the third fastest batsman to score 9000 runs in ODI.

Dhoni became Indian ODI team captain in September 2007, since then he achieved heaps of milestones and made a lot of ODI records. India became number 1 ICC test team for the first time in 2009 under Dhoni's leadership. India won first T20 world cup under Dhoni captaincy in 2011. Dhoni led India to win all three international trophies for the first time in 2013. Dhoni is the only player to win ODI cricketer of the year twice in history. MS Dhoni has the most number of sixes (193) as a captain in ODI and he is the 2nd most successful ODI captain in cricket history followed by Ricky Ponting. MS Dhoni is a born leader and also called Mr. Cool is one of the greatest finisher for Indian cricket team. MS Dhoni made his ODI debut on Dec 23, 2004 against Bangladesh at Chittagong. A year after Dhoni made his Test debut on Dec 2, 2005 against Sri Lanka at Chennai and retired from Test cricket Dec 30, 2014. Dhoni retired from one day international and wanted to focus on limited over cricket games but in his previous press release he stated that he still miss Test cricket. MS Dhoni scored 9000 runs in ODI during India third one day international against New Zealand in Mohali on 23rd of October, 2016. Dhoni told media in post-match conference that No. 4 is the idea position for Indian skipper to express himself. Dhoni always wanted to bat up the order so he can have more time to accumulate runs and play vital role in chasing big targets. In a post-match conference Dhoni said, "We were having a conversation in the team management about the things we want to do. One of the things was for me to play free cricket," he said after the match. "The first thing that helps [when batting at No.4] is you are only two down. It was important for me to start with a positive intent. I could have got out, but that is the risk you can afford to take if you are batting at No. 4." Dhoni promotion to number 4 will give a youngster an opportunity to learn art of finishing an innings.
