Will Pakistan Move to Number 1 Test Ranking:
After first test match win over West Indies, cricket fans would be thinking if Pakistan could reclaim number 1 test ranking once again. Pakistan won first test match against West Indies by 56 runs and still got 2 more test matches left in the Test series played at UAE. According to new ICC test ranking system, if a team win a match against higher ranked test team then more points are awarded to winning team but if a win is against a lower ranked team then less rating points are achieved by winning team. Pakistan is currently ranked number 2 test team in ICC world ranking with 111 rating while West Indies is ranked at number 8 with 67 rating, so it is a test series between a higher ranked team and a lower ranked team.
Pakistan v West Indies Test Series Effect on Ranking:
According to new ranking system if Pakistan win series against West Indies 3-0 then they will only gained 1 rating and will move to 112 rating which is still 3 less than India 115, so Pakistan will not reclaim number 1 test ranking by winning Test series against West Indies even after a whitewash of West Indies. If Pakistan win series by 2-0 then they will lose 1 rating and move to 110 points since it is a loss against very low ranked test team. If Pakistan win 2 matches and West Indies win 1 match in this test series then Pakistan will lose 2 ratings and final points would be 109 which is only 1 more than Australia who is ranked number 3 best test team in the world. It is mandatory for Pakistan to win Test series 3-0 in order to gain one rating and move bit closer to India 115 rating.
Pakistan Test Ranking Prediction:
- If Pakistan beat West Indies 3-0 then Pakistan rating will be 112.
- If Pakistan beat West Indies 2-0 then new rating will be 110.
- If Pakistan beat West Indies 2-1 then new rating will be 109.
- If Pakistan beat West Indies 1-0 then new rating will be 109.
Pakistan will have to win a test series against a higher ranked team like Australia, India, South Africa and England. Unfortunately, Pakistan next test match series is bit far and it is against Australia so win won't be that easy. India will be number 1 test team for a while, South Africa will tour Australia for 3 match test series but no matter who wins series won't be able to take number 1 test rank from India. Pakistan is ranked number 2nd best test team in the world and series win against West Indies won't effect their ranking, they will still remain number 2 test team in ICC test ranking.
Can Pakistan become Number 1 Test team in ICC ranking after beating New Zealand? Yes Pakistan can become No. 1 ICC test team if they beat New Zealand 2-0 and if England win test series in India.
