Gambhir Recalled for New Zealand Test Series:
Gautam Gambhir last played international match 2 years ago. Gambhir showed a good form in Duleep trophy. He scored 356 runs from five innings at an average of 71.20 and Gambhir was dismissed only once in the tournament. Gambhir is picked for current test series against New Zealand, based on his solid form and it was too hard for selectors to ignore him. KL Rahul injured his right hamstring and might not play remainder of Test series. Gautam Gambhir will replace Rahul and will play important role in current Indian Test setup. "Gambhir is definitely under consideration because he has been doing extremely well, and even the team management feels that with 12-13 Test matches coming up there needs to be some experience [at the top]," BCCI official said.
Gautam Gambhir rightly deserve his recall to India Test series against New Zealand. He has improved a lot and Indian cricket set up needs young talent along with some experience. Gambhir last return to Indian Test side wasn't good. He scored 25 runs from four Test innings in 2014 against England. India eventually lost test series to England 3-1. Gautam Gambhir was ignored since tour of England in 2014 and finally BCCI selection committee finally decided to give Gambhir another chance to represent India in test cricket.
Gautam Gambhir holds opening partnership record of 4412 runs with Virendar Sehwag, which is one half of India successful opening partnerships. Gautham Gambhir, 34 years old has scored 4046 runs in 56 test with an average of 42.58. Gambhir is 13th highest runs scorer for India in Test cricket. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay didn't impress selectors much and were sidelined by selection committee. "Nothing beats playing again for d country. Test cricket, whites, red ball and India cap again," Gambhir said on Twitter after his surprise recall was announced on Tuesday night. "Excitement of a debutant, certainty of experienced, nervousness of a novice...am feeling it all. Eden here I come loaded with ambitions."

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was recalled to the Indian Test team on Tuesday (September 27), after a gap of over two years. Gambhir will be part of India test setup for the remainder of the ongoing three-match series against touring New Zealand side.

Gambhir return to Test cricket - update (04-10-2016): Gambhir is more likely to play in India 3rd test against New Zealand on 8th of October, 2016 in Indore. Shikar Dhawan is ruled out of last test match due to minor fracture on his left thumb after getting struck twice by Trent Boult.
