ECB Announced New Central Contracts
England and Wales Cricket Board has announced new structural central contracts for national team players. ECB has divided contract in to two lists, Test cricket contract and ODI cricket contract. However, some players are contracted under Test and ODI team. New contract will start from 1st of October 2016 and will be valid for 12 months. International game is evolving very rapidly, ICC keeps bringing in new rules and technology to develop cricket and make it more entertaining for viewers. T20 cricket and ODI cricket are the main stream of income. England team is performing well after recent World Cup. England team was runner up in ICC World T20 finals and new team setup is very explosive and meet requirements of new generation of cricket.
Andrew Strauss, the director of England cricket, "We believe the restructure of the central contract system will recognise the increased focus of the shorter format and the importance that we place on this as we continue our progress towards hosting the 2019 World Cup,". New central contracts were issued to promote white ball cricket. ICC champions trophy will be hosted by England in 2017 and World Cup Cricket 2019 looming around, more focus is made on white ball cricket.
ECB Test Contracts 2016-17: Players in test list of contract are paid solely by ECB and list includes Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Steven Finn, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood
ECB ODI Contracts 2016-17: Players in white ball cricket list will receive supplement on top of their county contracts. ODI contracted players list includes Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan, Liam Plunkett, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, David Willey
Increment Contract: Gary Balance has been awarded Increment contract which is based on regularity of appearance from pool of players not included in contract list.
England goal is to become ultimate number one in both red ball and white ball cricket. New contracts are announced in keeping this goal in mind. Four players are included in both red ball and white ball contract lists; Moeen Ali, Joe Root, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes. Players will receive a ranking based on on-field performance and off-field contribution, fielding, fitness and other factors. Rankings will then correlate with player's level of remuneration. Since introduction of test cricket contract in 2012, England team has consistently performed well. ECB has same expectation from England team in Test and ODI cricket.
