Virat Kohli’s 50^th century set up a fascinating end to the first Test. It aided India to declare the second innings on 352-8 & set Sri Lanka 231 to win.

B Kumar 4-8 & M Shami 2-34 crushed Sri Lanka batting line-up during second innings. Chasing 231 runs target, Sri Lanka lost 7 wickets for 75 but somehow the visitors prevented India from blowing their house down. The bad light terminated play on the final day of first Test.

Virat Kohli smashed 104 off 119 balls to lift India to 352-8. Suranga Lakmal bagged three wickets on Monday to give Sri Lanka a chance of winning the first ever Test in India.

India lost all 10 wickets for 172 in first innings while Sri Lanka made 294, taking a first innings lead of 122.

India resumed their batting on 171-1 on final day. They attacked bowlers & conceded runs at quick pace but soon Lakmal removed Rahul for 79.

Pujara gave a leading edge to gully where Perera took a superb catch & Lakmal made another breakthrough. Rahane became Lakmal’s third prey when trapped lbw for none.

Perera dismissed Jadeja for 9 & India were 251-5 at lunch.

After hours lost to rain over the first two days, the match came down to the last few minutes, with Shami & Kumar trying to bowl out the visitors & Sri Lanka trying to delay the match to force a draw. Unfortunately umpires had to stop the play due to bad light.
