India crush Sri Lanka in second Test by an innings & 239 runs:
Ashwin
grabbed four wickets to make a new record as India beat Sri Lanka in second
Test match to go one up in the Test series. India achieved this feat after
restricting Sri Lanka to 166-10 in second innings & won the Test match
comprehensively by an innings & 239 runs.
Ashwin achieved fastest 300 wickets in just 50 Tests
Ashwin
became the fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets surpassing Australia Dennis
Lillee.
Sri
Lanka were 21-1 at stumps day 3 & they collapsed to 166-10 on day 4. India now
lead the Test series 1-0.
Captain
Chandimal played a fine innings as he struck 61 but rest of the team could not
make resistance against India bowling. Ashwin finished with match figures of
8-130.
Ashwin
removed Gamage for nought to enter his name in record books. He achieved quickest
300 wickets in 50 Test matches.
The
rest of the bowlers Jadeja, Yadav & Ishant shared two wickets each.
Jadeja
removed Karunaratne early for 18. He was caught at short leg by Murali Vijay.
Yadav
dismissed Thirimanne for 23. He played a loose hit way outside off stump &
Jadeja took an easy catch.
It
was India skipper Kohli who completed his fifth double ton in Test cricket.
India declared their innings on 610-6 in reply to Sri Lanka first inning total
of 205. India got the first innings lead of 405 runs.
India
skipper smashed 213 off just 267 deliveries. He entered into big partnerships
with Pujara & Rohit to pulverize the Sri Lanka bowling.
The
other India batsmen who entered three figures include Pujara 143, Rohit Sharma
102* & Vijay 128.
Sri
Lanka wasted the benefit of winning the toss & batting first as they were
restricted to 205-10 & 166-10 in first & second innings.
