Ashes 2017-18: Australia beat England by 10 wickets:

Australia beat England in first Test match of Ashes series today. Australia secured a thumping 10 wicket win over their traditional rivals today at Gabba. Steve Smith is proud of the way his boys played this match.

David Warner & Cameron Bancroft made an unbeaten 173 runs stand & won the match without losing a single wicket. David Warner finished with 87 off 119 balls with debutant Cameron Bancroft who struck 82 off 182.

"We had to show some really good character throughout. Obviously losing the toss, and the wicket was a lot slower than we anticipated it would be. We had to work really hard," said Australian skipper Steve Smith.

"I'm pleased with the way we have played. Bowling first at The Gabba, it's hard. The bowlers had to be on. The way we pulled it back to win from the position we were in it's extremely pleasing. I'm proud of the way the boys fought."

Australia only required 56 runs on the final day of Test match to go one up in the series.

Joe Root said the outcome did not narrate the complete story.

"For three days we were excellent. Bar Steve's knock we were right in it," he said, referring to Smith's battling first innings century.

"It's frustrating. We have to move on quickly and make sure we don't make the same mistakes in Adelaide."

Warner secured his 25^th half century while Bancroft achieved his first Test fifty in the second innings of his first Test match.

"It was good fun, to share a good partnership was nice. To get the win in the end was good," said Bancroft, who was allegedly headbutted by Jonny Bairstow in a late-night quarrel in Perth earlier in the tour.

ECB said that team management have asked England wicket keeper Jonny Bairstow about the alleged incident.

Warner told that it was big achievement to win with all 10 wickets.

"That's what we cherish, coming out being disciplined to try and get the job done as best as possible," he said.

It was an attritional war b/w the old rivals over the first three days, raising the tourists’ hope of a first victory at Gabba fortress in over three decades.

Captain Steve Smith’s match winning knock changed the whole story as he struck not out 141 to help Australia post 26 runs first innings lead. Later Hazzlewood’s two wickets in the final session on day 3 took the game away from England.

England were all out for 195 on day 4. They have not beaten Australia in Brisbane in 31 years.

The next Test match will be played b/w Australia & England on 02 December 2017.
