Pakistan & Sri Lanka teams will travel to Pakistan from Abu Dhabi tonight:
Pakistan
fans will celebrate international cricket on their home grounds once again
after 8 years. International cricket teams did not visit Pakistan after
terrorists attacked Sri Lanka team bus when they were travelling from hotel to
Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium in March 2009. The gunmen harmed 6 players &
killed 6 security personnel & 2 civilians.
Pakistan & Sri Lanka cricket teams will arrive at Lahore tonight
After
that incident, Pakistan were forced to play their home series in UAE. Only
international team that played 5 matches ODI series in Pakistan was Zimbabwe in
2015 but no major teams visited Pakistan till 2017.
Things
began to change when Pakistan hosted Pakistan Super League final in Lahore this
year.
"Even
that baby step seemed an impossibility. I can tell you that none of the
franchises wanted it, they were scared… the government was scared...the players
were scared," PCB chief Najam Sethi said.
Pakistan
& Sri Lanka cricket teams will leave for Lahore tonight. The teams will
play the final T20 match at Gaddafi stadium Lahore.
The
Sri Lanka cricket team will depart from Abu Dhabi at 10 pm & arrive at
Lahore at 2:25 am.
Thisara
Perera is the new skipper of Sri Lanka cricket team after Upul Tharanga is
pulled out of the squad.
Pakistan
is leading the three match T20 series 2-0.
