AB de Villiers is unlikely to play Test cricket but there is no news of De Villiers retirement:

de Villiers may not play Test cricket anymore & South Africa have to
consider it according to skipper Faf du Plessis. South Africa lost the Test
series 1-3 to England & it affected their record as before this series
South Africa had brilliant away record since 2006. South Africa had batting
collapses in this series & captain said that their problems cannot be
solved by waiting for de Villiers to come back & play for South Africa.
They need to find a replacement of De Villiers as he may not play for South
Africa anymore. According to Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers will unlikely to
represent South Africa in Test cricket & they need to quit thinking about
his comeback.
AB de Villiers has not played for South Africa for 19 months but there is no news about AB de Villiers retirement from Test cricket
Faf
du Plessis told that he would love de Villiers to play for South Africa &
they know that he has a vital role in the team but they spent much time talking
about his comeback. The hope of AB coming back is something they need to move
past, they need to give this responsibility to someone else. If de Villiers
return it will be a bonus but Faf is sure that he won’t comeback in to the Test
squad.

De Villiers played his last Test match 19 months ago against England when he was playing as a stand-in skipper after Hashim Amla’s resignation. It was thought that AB
would be the captain of South Africa but he had been out of the Test cricket
due to elbow injury against New Zealand last August. Du Plessis was elected as temporary
skipper but when South Africa beat Australia, he was asked to become the
permanent captain of South Africa. De Villiers took lots of time in recovery
but even without him the team had made strikes under Faf leadership.
South Africa captain wants to have someone else in place of De Villiers but still there is no news about AB de Villiers retirement.
