Azhar Ali has stepped down as Pakistan’s ODI skipper after
his team was crushed by the hosts in Australia & the wicketkeeper batsman
Sarfaraz Ahmed became the next captain of Pakistan ODI squad, told by PCB
Chairman.
The stepping down of Azhar Ali is due to Pakistan’s poor
performance in one day cricket & the team was not looking in winning
position. Although Azhar took this hard step right on time for his team &
Sarfaraz who is the T20 captain became the ODI skipper too.
Pakistan was earlier the world champion now ranked at no. 8
in ODI & rumors were spreading about Azhar Ali not leading the team well in
limited overs format & following Pakistan beaten 4-1 in odi series against Australia last
month.
Azhar Ali has stepped down as Pakistan ODI captain
PCB chairman Shahryar said that Azhar Ali is worried about
his batting as he feels being a skipper affects him badly as it puts extra load
on him.
Shahryar told ESPN that he respects Azhar’s choice of
stepping down & he will continue his ODI career but we need to hand over
the captaincy to Sarfaraz.
I think Pakistan should have taken this step earlier as
Azhar’s performance in limited overs is badly affected due to captaincy and he
is not scoring enough runs & seems not in form due to extra burden that was
put on him.

Azhar Ali should have left Pakistan ODI captaincy long time ago. We do not want a defensive ODI captain for Pakistan. Game has changed now. Cricket teams are scoring 300 plus runs which is still not enough to guarantee a win. Pakistan needs to move ON. They should not rely on bowlers to save games anymore. Pakistan needs batsmen to make games for them. Sarfaraz Ahmed is the best option in this regard. As a cricket fan and strong supporter of Pakistan cricket i strongly support this decision.
