Faf Du Plessis is New SA Test Captain:
South Africa cricket board has appointed Faf Du Plessis as permanent captain for South African test team. Du Plessis has already impressed board and selectors with his team leading skills that won South Africa test series against Australia. With out Ab de Villiers and seam spearhead Dale Steyn, du Plessis made sure that South Africa will continue there test series wins against Australia. South Africa won test series against Australia 2-1 and it was one of the toughest challenge for new captain. du Plessis is now confirmed as South Africa's permanent test team captain and his first full time assignment would be Sri Lanka tour of South Africa test series 2016-17.
Du Plessis took his dog 'Giorgio' to his first press conference as a full time test captain of South Africa cricket team. du Plessis always emphasize on proper preparation, no matter who team is playing against. There is no big series or small series, they all the same and win is a win. South Africa has lost key players due to injury and Sri Lanka have lost good players due to retirement. But upcoming series will be important to both teams. du Plessis dropped him self down the order to number 5 to reduce responsibilities on his head. JP Duminy is promoted to number 4 to add some more responsibilities since Duminy is experienced and like to take challenges. du Plessis also mentioned in the press conference that he expect more responsibilities from in-form batsman. If a batsman is going well then they should go for longer innings and score centuries.
Ab de Villiers stepped down from test captaincy when he was ruled out of test series again Sri Lanka due to injury that needs more time to heal. de Villiers had a surgery done to his elbow and recovery will still take a while. de Villiers said, "The interests of the team must always outweigh the interests of any individual, including me." Recovery from elbow surgery might take an other month and the de Villiers will have to show fitness by playing domestic cricket. Mohammed Moosajee said, "AB's left elbow is much improved but is still regaining the last few degrees of straightening. Fitness to play requires full range of elbow movement and this may take another 3-4 weeks to achieve." de Villiers has supported and backed up faf du Plessis permanent test team captain of South Africa.
Du Plessis was happy that de Villiers made this decision for the team and not just thinking about his own career. "AB has always been a guy that puts the team first, as you've seen by his making this decision. To be part of something like that says a lot about our culture but also shows a lot about AB as a person and how he values the team above himself." Plessis also said that people only take you seriously when you become a test captain.
