England tour of India First Test Match:
India is playing first test match of five test match series on 9-11-2016 at Rajkot, India. England won the toss and elected to bat first. England was fortunate enough not to lose wickets too early in the match after 3 dropped chances by fielders of seamers bowling. Alastair Cook and debutant Hameed both got lives in early stages of the game but still couldn't go for a long innings.
Day 1: England lost 3 wickets by lunch in first session of the day. Jadeja got Cook's wicket when he was on 21 runs and Ashwin got Hameed and Duckett out before lunch time. England were 102/3 in 32.3 overs, before Joe Root and Moeen Ali rescued the team. Root scored 124 runs before he got out caught and bowled by Yadav. England finished first day with dominating batting performance. England scored 311 runs for loss of only 4 wickets. Moeen Ali is shy of 1 runs from his century. Ben Stokes was on 19 before close of day. India had really tight over rate, they manage to bowl 93 overs on first day of test match. England score 311/4 in 93 overs.
Day 2: Moeen Ali added some more entertainment to match by scoring hundred runs. Moeen got bowled by Mohammad Shami on 117 runs. England lost their fifth wicket for 343 runs, Ben Stokes has taken the charge now, batting on 47 runs from 84 balls by end of 107 overs. Stokes became the third batsman to score a century, he brought his hundred in a style with a classical shot that went for four runs, England 480/8. A massive first innings score of 537/10 in 159.3 overs is good start for England test series. Cracks in the pitch are opening up and its more suitable for spin bowling and reverse swing now. India will have to match England first innings total to stay alive in this test match. 63/0 in 23 overs is a good start to Indian batting by end of Day 2.
Day 3: India started well on 3rd day of the test match, only lost 1 wicket of Gambhir to Broad. Ball is spinning a lot and there is variable bounce in the pitch but not enough to trouble Indian batsman. India is 113/1 by end of 40th over. India dominated the 3rd day of 1st test match. Murali Vijay scored 126 runs and Pujara scored 124 runs with over 200 runs partnership for 2nd wicket. India finished third day on 319/4 from 108.3 overs. Pitch is flat and good for batting, this test match is heading for a draw.
Day 4: India will start 4th day with Virat Kohli batting on 26 runs and might be joined by new batsman Rahane. India went to lunch on day four of 1st test match 411/6, Ashwin once again proved that he is a good allrounder, he is not out on 70 runs and India is 49 runs behind with 1 wicket in hand. India all out on 488 runs from 162 overs, Adil Rashid took 4 wickets. England batting on 31/0 from 8 overs in their second innings with 27 more overs remaining in the 4th day. Haseeb Hameed became England third youngest batsman (19 years and 300 days) to score test fifty. England on 89/0 in 28 overs with a lead of 138 runs. 4th day of test match ended with England on 114/0 from 37 overs. England lead by 116 runs with 10 wickets remaining. 90 overs to bowl on 5th day of test to decide the result of match.
Day 5: England in commanding position on day 5 of first test match. A well played innings by Hameed came to end not long before lunch time Hameed scored 82 runs and was caught and bowled by Mishra. Second wicket fell shortly when Root on 4 runs miscued a delivery by Mishra. England went to lunch on 210/2 and Alastair Cook unbeaten on 105 runs. England lead 259 runs with 8 wickets remaining; 61 overs remaining in the day. England declared on 260/3, setting India a target of 310 to achieve. India lost Gambhir for a duck, not a start they would have expected in this chase. A wonder ful last day of test cricket came to an end with India 172/6 wickets and England just 4 wickets short of a win. Kohli's team definitely figured out how to draw a test match.
