Christchurch Test to be Played as Planned:
New Zealand suffered another high magnitude earthquake when Christchurch was stuck by 7.5 magnitude earthquake after midnight on Monday. Pakistan cricket team is in Nelson and were effected by this earthquake. Pakistan will play first test match against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch and it is believed that it will go ahead as planned. In 2010 a massive earthquake destroyed previous international cricket ground in Christchurch, since then Hagley Oval has been given a test status. Epicenter of earthquake is around 100 km from Hagley Oval. Pakistani cricket team is pretty shaken by earthquake and after shocks of 6+ magnitude are always terrifying. "Preparations for the Test are going ahead, but we are continuing to monitor the situation," a New Zealand Cricket spokesperson said. "It's just a case of staying in touch with authorities." New Zealand and Pakistani cricket management will keep a close eye on situation and safety concerns but right now Christchurch test will go ahead as scheduled. Christchurch test match will be played as planned without any issues.
New Zealand and Pakistan cricket team will do practice and training session on 14th of November (Tuesday) as planned and will play in Christchurch test match on 17th of November. It was a bit scary experience for players and people of New Zealand but hopefully excitement of test match will overcome there sadness and fear after earthquake. "For us it was something new because we don't have many earthquakes in Pakistan," Bari said. "This was a pretty strong one. We'd just finished watching the India-England match and the doors and windows were going from one side to another as if they were made of paper. There was some trauma as well for the boys. Back home, the families had felt disturbed." Earthquake shook both Pakistan and New Zealand team and it is always scary especially during aftershocks that occur for few next days. "It always brings the community together - provides a brief moment of normality," Henry said. "It's probably good timing to have the Test match this week. Hopefully the weather plays it's part. Pakistan v New Zealand first test match at Christchurch to go ahead as planned.
Tsunami warnings were issued and the civil authorities have ordered the evacuation of some coastal areas. However, after 6.2 aftershock, no new tsunami warnings were issued. Aftershocks of 6.3 magnitude has been recorded in the area. New Zealand has postponed The Plunket Shield match to be played between Wellington and Central Districts after earthquake. Cricket fans can keep their hope high since there is nothing stopping from Pakistan v New Zealand test match to be played at Christchurch.
