South Africa v Australia Day-Night Test

South Africa tour of Australia third and only Day-Night test match is played at Adelaide Oval. It will be Australia second international D-N test match and South Africa will be playing their first Day/Night test match. Faf Du Plessis is stand-in captain in the third and final test match of the tour. Adelaide Oval pitch is famous for a even balance between bat and ball. Seam bowling will be very useful especially around dusk time. Both teams are equipped with one specialist spinner, however it is hard to say whether spin bowling will be productive on Adelaide Oval pitch. South Africa won the toss again, it is the third time in the series that Proteas has won the toss and they will decide to bat in Adelaide Day-Night test match.

Day 1: Australia dominated first day of Adelaide Oval day-night test match. Apart from Cook and du Plessis no other Proteas batsman could hold the crease for longer time. Cook scored 40 runs and du Plessis scored an unbeaten 118. South Africa made a brave decision by declaring for 259/9 and put Australia to bat under lights. Pink ball didn't behave extra ordinary and Australian batsman handled pink ball really well. Australia are on 14/0 from 12 overs by the end of day 1. 

Day 2: A promising start by Australian batsman in first session of the day. Debutant opener Renshaw and David Warner got out cheaply to Abbott on 10 and 11 runs respectively. Usman Khawaja scored an other half century and is batting a long with captain Steven Smith on 23 runs. Australia 109/2 from 41 overs by lunch time. Smith run out on 59 after lack of communication between him and Khawaja. Usman Khawaja is the first Australian to score a century in this test series. Khawaja on 103 and Australia 187/3 in 64.4 overs. Australia went to dinner on 209/3, only 49 runs behind South Africa. 32 more overs remaining in the day. South Africa bounced back after taking 3 quick wickets, Australia 283/6 leading by 24 runs. With a lead of 48 runs and 4 wickets in hand, Australia finished 2nd day with complete control of the game, Australia 307/6 from 102 overs.

Day 3: Usman Khawaja on 138 runs will start third day of Day-Night test match with Mitchell Starc on 16 runs. After adding 7 runs to over night total, Khawaja got out for 145 runs. Mitchell Starc scored 53 runs from 91 balls. Tailenders added to over night total and Australia scored 383 runs all out on 3rd day. South Africa lost first wicket for 1 run only, Hashim Amla scored 45 runs before getting out to Hazlewood for the 5th time in this test series. South Africa in big trouble after losing wickets after wickets. 81 runs is the highest partnership for 2nd wicket. Mitchell Starc pace troubled Proteas and pressure kept building up one new batsman coming out to bat. Cook is not out on 81 runs with his batting partner de Kock on 0 will start batting on 4th day. Australia is on top, in reality SA scored 70 runs with only 4 wickets remaining.

Day 4: Cook on 81 and de Kock on 0 will face Australian pace attack on 4th day of the test match. de Kock, Philander and Rabada got out cheaply on 4th day of test match. Cook scored his first international hundred and was bowled by Starc. South Africa only scored 250 runs from 85.2 overs; leaving Australia to chase 127 runs. David Warner always seems in a rush to finish off the game, he scored a quick 47 runs of just 51 balls and brought Australia close to the target before getting out. Captain Smith had a wonderful knock himself, scoring 40 runs of 52 deliveries. Australia chase target of 127 in 40.5 overs for loss of only 3 wickets.
