Afridi wants to play in BBL 2016-2017:
Shahid Khan Afridi has shown his interest in playing Big Bash League 2016-17. Afridi believes he can still play cricket for another couple of years and he is currently focusing on domestic T20 cricket in order to get back in international T20 side. Boom Boom has been regularly offered BBL contract but he couldn't take it due to national team commitment. But now he is keen to sign contract if it is offered to him by Cricket Australia. Afridi has only played once in KFC Big Bash League 01, it was in 2011-2012, the first ever edition of T20 tournament. After first successful campaign of KFC BBL 01, Afridi signed another contract for BBL 02 but later on he pulled out of the T20 tournament.
Boom Boom played for Melbourne Renegades franchise in first edition of KFC Big Bash League. Veteran Pakistani all-rounder and T20 captain is once again interested in entertaining Aussie crowd. Afridi said in an interview with cricket.com.au, "I am very focused on cricket and want to continue it. I am looking after myself very well and working hard on my fitness. "I still feel that I can play for the next couple of years whether it is for Pakistan or PSL (Pakistan Super League), Big Bash or England (domestic) T20s." Shahid Khan Afridi has a reputation of unpredictable batsman, No one knows what he is going to produce and i don't think even he knows himself. Afridi form with ball has been incredible the whole time and his athletic efforts in field is always inspiring and encouraging for his team mates.
Shahid Afridi is a massive entertainer with his bat but his stay is always short at the crease. Even in a T20 match, he goes through course of a long innings in just few balls. The Guardians editor Any Bull wrote about Afridi, “So, in only seven balls, Afridi seemed to cycle through all the many stages a batsman might go through in the course of a long innings, from cautious beginnings through canny accumulation to masterful domination and, at last, a fatal mistake,”. However, Afridi can be a very dangerous batsman is his batting is up to mark. His strike rate in T20 is second best to Glen Maxwell, even though Afridi has played three times more T20 than Maxwell. Afridi batted along Maxwell in his first innings in T20 BBL 2011-2012, playing for Melbourne Renegades.
