England in control of 2nd Investec Test:
Century from England captain Alastair Cook and a double hundred from Joe Root put England in absolute control of second Investec Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester. Joe Root scored 254 runs from 406 balls at strike rate of 62.56. Root hit 27 marvelous boundaries in his innings before he lost his wicket to Wahab Riaz. Alastair Cook scored 105 runs at a strike rate of 61 and hit 15 fours. Yasir Shah is too close to break world record of fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in Test match, but he could only manage to take 1 wicket in England's first innings. Joe Root scored 254 runs in 2nd Test |
Joe Root 254 is third highest batting score by England player against Pakistan. Alastair Cook scored his 29th Test hundred and equal Sir Don Bradman record of highest hundreds by any English batsman in Test cricket. It was Cook first hundred in 20 Test innings after a poor batting form for a while. Cricket pitch at Old Trafford seems like turning in favor of bowler now. England took good advantage of the pitch by building up good partnership and scoring 589. Scoring runs freely in next 3 days won't be that easy for either side. If Pakistan fail to display good batting performance on day 3rd of this match then no doubt England will level Test series.
