Ganguly Disappointed:
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was deeply hurt when Shastri said he felt disrespected by the absence of Sourav Ganguly during interview for head coach of India. This controversy arose when Ravi Shastri said that he was upset at Ganguly's absence during his interview and told media, "that person was disrespectful of the candidate who was going to be interviewed and disrespectful to the job he was entrusted to do". Ganguly said that he left for CAB meeting because he knew rest of selection committee is highly skilled and experienced enough to make the right call.![]() |

Ganguly stated, "I just feels that comments are very personal and if Ravi Shastri feels that i am responsible for him not being the coach of India, he is living in a fool's world". He added, "its a committee and there are people in the committee who are of more repute than I am and there are other people involved also who were consulted and spoken about. So that's disappointing. Ganguly also mentioned that Shastri's interview was schedule to start at 4.15pm but other candidates took bit longer so he couldn't attend that interview. Ganguly had BCCI consent to attend CAB meeting which was schedule to start at 5pm the same day. Ganguly offered to postponed interview till 6pm which others agree in start but later on other members of committee insisted to conduct interview per schedule time in absence of Sourav and Ganguly had no problem with it.
Shastri hinted that Ganguly was given such an important role of selecting a head coach of India and he shouldn't have missed the meeting at all and in future he should always be there when he is needed. Ganguly hit back by saying that if it was such a big role for Shastri then he should have attended meeting in person, sat face to face with committee members rather than doing it over skype while enjoying holidays in Bangkok. Anil Kumble spoke to committee members for 2 hours, just to justify why he should be selected and Shastri made a presentation over skype.
