Should MS Dhoni be a part of India T20 side?
Former India cricketers VVS Laxman & Ajit Agarkar wants MS Dhoni to give chance to youngsters as he failed to produce runs at a high strike rate against New Zealand in second T20. India were chasing a big target of 197 & they were defeated by 40 runs in the second T20.
Should MS Dhoni play T20 for India
Dhoni came to bat when India were 67-4 in 9.1 overs. He scored 16 off 18 balls while Kohli on the other end was smashing boundaries in almost every over. Dhoni ended up scoring 49 off 37 balls as he started hitting in the final two overs when India had almost lost the match.
VVS Laxman said in a post match show, "I still feel it's time for MS Dhoni to give youngsters a chance in T20 format. It will be an opportunity for a youngster to blossom and get confidence playing international cricket. He is definitely an integral part of ODI cricket,".
Ajit Agarkar is in favor of fresh talent & he wants India to look at other options, he told ESPN cricinfo, “I think India must now look at other options at least in T20s.”
"You had a chance (in the second T20 against New Zealand) if he (Dhoni) had got going immediately but that has been his problem for a while now. It's not tonight or over the last few games. He takes a little bit of time to settle down and in twenty 20 cricket, there is no time," Agarkar said.
"I heard people say that he should bat at different number, but he came into bat in the 10th over in this match. How many times you get to bat 10 overs in T20 cricket and in my opinion, there was enough time," he added.
However India skipper Virat Kohli & former India legend Sunil Gavaskar still wants to retain Dhoni in the T20 team.
Sunil Gavaskar & Virat Kohli thinks that people criticize only the senior players while nobody points out the youngsters after team fails to perform.
Sunil Gavaskar said, “When somebody reaches an age beyond 30 then all of us are looking to find fault with that person.”
Virat Kohli expressed his views in support of MS Dhoni, “If I fail three times, no one is going to point fingers at me because I’m not over 35.”
India finds the fifth place in ICC T20 team ranking after beating New Zealand 2-1 in recent T20 series at home. India share equal points 119 with number 4 ranked T20 team England.
MS Dhoni had played 83 T20 matches & scored 1281 runs with an average of 35.6 at a strike rate of 123. He played 10 matches after giving up captaincy & made 169 runs with an average of 33.8 at a strike rate of 131.
A big question is should MS Dhoni continue playing T20 or give chance to youngsters? Please comment your opinion about it.
