India sweep Sri Lanka 9-0 in Test, ODI & T20

India sweep Sri Lanka 9-0 on the tour & made a world record:

Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock as he made match winning 82 against Sri Lanka in only T20 match. India clean sweep Sri Lanka in all three formats including Tests, ODIs & T20s.

Earlier spinners put pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen; Chahal & Kuldeep restricted Sri Lanka to 170-7 in 20 overs. India scored 174-3 in 19.2 overs to win by 7 wickets.

With this victory, India sweep Sri Lanka 9-0 on the tour & made a world record.

Sri Lanka put a big target of 171 for India to chase. India lost R Sharma early & then the second batsman who left the crease soon was KL Rahul but then Kohli made a 119 runs partnership for the third wicket with Pandey that put the pressure back on the hosts.

The partnership took the game away from the hosts. Both the batsmen hit boundaries to entertain the Indian fans. The running b/w the wicket was amazing to watch.

Kohli & Pandey reached their fifties & it was Pandey’s 3rd important innings in a row that come handy for his team.

Virat Kohli is the only player who scored 1000 runs with 50+ average in the shortest format & it was another blistering innings from him (82 off 54 balls). Virat Kohli also received the man of the match award.

Kohli played a responsible inning when India was in huge trouble as they lost the openers early & India were 42-2 when Pandey joined Kohli. Kohli & Pandey hit several blazing shots to raise India from 47-2 in 7 overs to 118-2 after 13 overs. India scored 174-3 in 19.2 overs to win 9 out of 9 matches in this tour.

India also hold record of chasing 174-7, the highest at this venue in 2009.

The story took another turn when the hosts batted first. Sri Lanka were 60-2 in their first six overs. They ended the batting after conceding 52 in the last five overs.

Sri Lanka faltered in b/w, losing 4 wickets in those 9 overs with a scoring rate of 6.5 runs per over.

Earlier during Sri Lanka batting, Dilshan Munaweera smashed his maiden fifty while debutant Ashan Priyanjan played a handy knock to guide the hosts to 170-7. During Dilshan’s 10th T20 match, he smashed 53 off 29 balls & his innings include 5 boundaries.
