New Zealand beat Bangladesh in 1st Test:
After Bangladesh dominance in the first test match for three days, New Zealand did well to get back in the match and secured a lead in the test series 2017. New Zealand white wash Bangladesh in ODI series, T20 series and they are moving in right direction to do it in Test series. New Zealand won first test match against Bangladesh played at Basin Reserve, Wellington by 7 wickets.
Bangladesh posted 595 runs in their first innings, Shakib Al Hasan made a magnificent double hundred and Mushfiqur Rahim with solid 159 runs. Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque and Sabbir Rahman supported their supreme batter with half centuries. New Zealand started their first innings with solid batting display from their top order. Almost every batsman chipped in with some runs, however Latham 177 runs was highlight of their innings. Captain Williamson, Nicholls and Santner scored half centuries and Watling got out one short of 50. New Zealand scored 539 runs all out and were trailed by 56 runs. Black caps bounced back on 4th day of the test match by taking 3 Bangladeshi wickets before close of day.
Day 5 was a disaster for Bangladeshi batsmen. They got out to some poor shots and couple of batsman got seriously injured. Imrul Kayes was retired out early in the innings and captain Mushfiqur Rahim was rushed to hospital after getting hit on back of helmet just close to his ear by Tim Southee's bouncer that stayed bit low. Only Sabbir Rahman provided some resistance and accumulated some runs for Bangladesh by scoring 50. Tigers were all out for 160 runs, giving New Zealand an opportunity to chase 217 with plenty of overs left during the day.
New Zealand lost both openers early in their chase. Latham scored 16 runs and Raval only managed to get 13 to his name. Kiwi after losing 2 wickets for 39 never seemed under pressure. Captain Williamson half century joined by Tylor with his own 50 kept scoreboard ticking and target was cut down to 43 runs with 8 wickets remaining with 25 overs still left in the day. Kane Williamson scored an unbeaten century to guide his team to win over Bangladesh in the first test match by 7 wickets.
Tom Latham from New Zealand is player of the match. In post match presentation Latham said, Very pleasing to make a significant contribution. It was nice to bat longer. Those partnerships at the top of the order was crucial and we did not lose wickets in clusters. A couple of dropped catches does not help, but it's a tough seeing ground.
