Steyn Injured Shoulder in WACA Test

Dale Steyn Injured Right Shoulder:

Dale Steyn left the field after experiencing shoulder pain half an hour before lunch time on second day of first test match at WACA ground in Perth, Australia. Steyn missed test series on South Africa tour of England due to shoulder injury. He missed six out of eight test matches last summer due to persistent injury and now he injured his troublesome right shoulder again. Dale Steyn was seen sitting in dressing room with his shoulder heavily strapped. Later on Steyn was taken to hospital for scans, it seems like he has aggrevated his old injury and it looks severe at this time. 33 year old spearhead was bowling fourth ball of his 12th over when Steyn aggravated his previous shoulder injury.

South Africa lost their spearhead Dale Steyn due to shoulder injury shortly after dismissing David Warner. Joy of taking first wicket was quickly diminished after Steyn was seen holding his shoulder and in pain. David Warner scored 97 runs from just 100 balls and was three short of reaching 100 runs. Shane Warne in commentary box said, "That looks like something much more major than a tweak. That's sad,". If injury is series then Dale Steyn might miss out on rest of test series and it will be a major blow to South Africa pace attack. Kevin Peterson told channel 9, "For the sake of cricket and the entertainment he brings to not just this series but also the world of cricket, it's not a good sight. "He's been bowling really fast. "Let's just hope it's a niggle there. But how quickly Hashim Amla called the physio and Faf du Plessis' reaction, it certainly not the reaction that anyone wanted to see."

Who Could Replace Steyn:

If Steyn is ruled out of this test match then South Africa will be down to only two main bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander. Morne Morkel and Kyle Abbott could be possible replacement for Dale Steyn who doesn't seems like in a position to play any part in rest of the test series in Australia. Morne Morkel has been out of cricket since his back injury and would need some match pratice before appearing in test series but it is up to South Africa selectors to chose who would replace Steyn.

Dale Steyn told media before start of test series that South Africa will target Steven Smith and David Warner to rattle down Australia batting line. He did so by taking David Warner wicket but would he be able to repeat it again in this test series is unknown at the moment. We will post updates about Steyn shoulder scan, severity of his shoulder injury and recovery time.

Dale Steyn ruled out of Test series due to shoulder fracture. Steyn is most likely to sit out for next six months. It is fracture to same shoulder he broke last season. Dale Steyn is only five wickets away to become South Africa leading test wicket taker. "I felt this pop or like a thud in my shoulder. There was a lot of pain," Steyn told Channel Nine. "I had to go off the field and have an MRI. I did something very similar against England in December in a similar area but it wasn't as bad. That was a stress reaction, which is like a very hairline little crack. This time it's more like a fracture. It's kind of broken the whole bone. I will probably have surgery and a plate in there. So we're probably looking at a minimum of six months before I'm up and going again".
