PCB announced New Contract List 2016-17:
Pakistan Cricket Board has announced new contract list for cricket players for 2016 - 2017. PCB has developed four categories of contract for cricket player. Category A, B, C and D, cricketers are assigned different categories depending on their fitness level and performance. Pakistan cricket players in Category A are highly paid, followed by category B, C and D (lowest pay rate). Every year players are shuffled around categories based on performance and fitness level the previous year. Some new or existing players are added to categories, some players get promoted while others are demoted or not awarded any new contract. Number of players in each category varies depending on performance in prior year.

Players Promoted in New Contract List:
PCB has awarded contract to 30 Pakistani cricket players which will be valid from 1st of October 2017 till 30th of June, 2017. Seven players are awarded category A contract, four players are awarded category B contract, fourteen players are awarded category C contract and five players are awarded category D contract. Following players are promoted in new contract list 2016-17. Mohammad Amir has returned to Pakistan cricket player contract list after expiry of his ban for spot fixing, Amir is awarded category B contract. Pakistan T20 captain and wicket keeper/batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed moved to category A. Yasir Shah for his record breaking performance in Pakistan tour of England and Pakistan v West Indies convinced PCB that he is worthy of category A contract for next one year. Emerging player Babar Azam got promoted to category C from category D. Imad Wasim and Sami Aslam moved one category up as well. Mohammad Asghar is a new face added to category D. Few players who were not part of PCB contracted list last year including Hasan Ali, Khalid Latif, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Sohail Khan and Sohail Tanvir were added to category C.

- 5 players are included in category D contact list.
Players Demoted in New Contract List:
A big disappointment for Boom Boom Afridi fans is that Shahid Khan Afridi is not given any contract as PCB no longer wish to keep him part of future plans, Afridi was in category A last year. Apart from Shahid Afridi, Fawad Alam, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Amin, Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan are cut from contract list. Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif couldn't make it to contract list after being eligible to play international cricket again. Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad is demoted from category B to category D. And Umar Akmal and Anwar Ali are dropped from category C to category D.
Mohammad Hafeez is no longer an all rounder and he delivers good with the bat every now and then but still not considered a consistent batsman (awarded category A contract). Why is Hafeez in list A??? PCB should have thought twice before even giving him a contract. Mohammad Hafeez is as bad as Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal. Hafeez is no longer all-rounder. He is only a batsman who can hardly score runs.
