England Hired Saqlain for Tour of India:
Rumors are true, England hired Saqlain Mushtaq as spin bowling consultant for England upcoming tour of India 2016. England has hired Saqlain in past when Pakistan toured England earlier this year. English spin bowling performance was superb in Investec test series and coach Trevor Bayliss expressed his interests in hiring Saqlain for England tour of India. England first test match against India will start on 13th of November and they will play five test match series ending on 20th of December. Saqlain Mushtaq will join England squad on 2nd of November 2016 but won't stay with the team for entire duration. Saqlain stint as bowling consultant would be only to train bowlers how to bowl in sub-continent pitches. It would also involve preparing bowlers mentally and all the tactics and strategies planned to exploit the pitches and get batsman out.
Saqlain Mushtaq Granted India Visa:
Saqlain Mushtaq has been granted 15 day visa to travel and stay in India as England spin bowling consultant. Saqlain will join England squad on 2 Nov, 2016 and Eng v Ind first test match will be played on 13 Nov, 2016. England spin attack will be headed by Moin Ali who has shown some good bowling performance in recent test matches against Bangladesh. Adil Rashid has got some international experience but Zafar Ansari is new to international cricket and Gareth Baitey has been away for quite a long time. Since Mushtaq Ahmed departure, England team has not hired any full time spin bowling coach. A lot of work needs to be done in training newly emerging spin bowlers and preparing English batsmen to tackle Indian spin attack.
England Performance against Spin in Bangladesh:
England batsman scummed to Bangladeshi spin bowling attack. Shakib-Al-Hasan troubled England with his spin. Rather than going after debutant Mehedi Hasan Miraz, England succumbed to his right-arm off-break. It wasn't the same case with England debutant Zafar Ansari, whose lef-arm orthodox was hit all over the ground by Bangladeshi batsman. Zafar only bowled 6 overs in Bangladesh first innings and went for 36 runs; Alastair Cook never brought him back to bowl for rest of the innings. Ansari however, took couple of wickets in second innings with an economy rate of 4. Much work needs to be done in England batting department, especially against Spin Bowling. India spin attack is much more superior than Bangladesh. Ashwin was player of the series against New Zealand in recently concluded test series would be in form to repeat same performance again. The threat of R. Jadeja will always be roaming around minds of English batsmen.
Saqlain Mushtaq Possible Duties:
Saqlain Mushtaq has indepth knowledge of Sub-continent pitches. How to bowl under different circumstances, how to read the pitches properly, how to set field for different batsman and how to bowl to set and new batsman are on his finger tips. Saqlain Mushtaq possible key responsibilities on England tour of India for Test series could be;
- help in-experience spin attack comprising of Batty, Rashid and Ansari who has only played combined 14 tests.
- Saqlain Mushtaq has worked with Moeen Ali and Abdul Rashid earlier this year so it would be easy to guide them again.
- Saqlain to help England batsman tackle Indian spin attack. How to play different spinners in different conditions and sessions.
- Saqlain to help England spinner in tactical preparation, how to set field and how to bowl to different players in sub-continent.
