Nepal Cricket Suspension Be Lifted by June 2017

Reinstatement of Cricket Association of Nepal:

ICC chief executive David Richardson told media about his plans of lifting Nepal suspension by June, 2017. Cricket Association of Nepal was advised to form an advisory committee to review its constitution and to conduct fresh election based on amended constitution. Three member ICC delegation also met Nepal prime minister Pushpa Kamal and expressed their desire to restore CAN. Nepal cricket has developed a lot in past few years and ICC do not want Nepal cricket to fail.

Why was CAN suspended:

Cricket Association of Nepal was suspended in April, 2016 due to lack of cricket leadership in Nepal. CAN and Nepal Sports Council battled at court to decide who should run cricket sports in country. Nepal cricket team was allowed to play cricket so they can earn money even though ICC funding to cricket development in Nepal was cut completely. ICC did not want cricket team players to suffer after suspending CAN. ICC emphasized that Nepal is an important member of cricket world and Nepal cricket has a lot of potential. Nepal proved it to rest of world by winning a historic match at Lords by defeating MCC by 41 runs.

Nepal Advisory Committee:

ICC is hopeful of committee establishment in next few weeks. Advisory committee will have representatives from sports council, government and cricket community. ICC representative Ammar Sheikh will be in charge of fair process of establishing committee and holding election. ICC and committee would fast track this process. Rather than spending couple of years, aim is to get it all done in next few months. Deadline is to restore CAN by June 2017, but possibility of accomplishing this goal could be before the deadline.

Hope of Lifting Suspension on CAN:

After meeting with prime minister of Nepal, Richardson is hopeful that this time there would be no government interference in governing sports of cricket in Nepal. Fair election would take place and cricket will run independent of government influence. Till all the necessary changes are made to reinstate Cricket Association in Nepal, ICC will keep funding cricket team players. If things work out good then cricket in Nepal would be back to normal. Cricket team, board, ground staff and domestic infrastructure all need financial aid to survive. Which is partially happening at this stage. Hopefully ICC will lift suspension on Nepal and reinstate Cricket Association of Nepal.
