Cricket Australia has decided top drop all rounder Glenn Maxwell from ODI squad currently playing in Sri Lanka. Maxwell had a poor form with bat for a while. He only averaged 11.8 in six innings in Australia last 10 one day internationals. Rod Marsh, Australia chairman of selection committee said that if Glenn Maxwell can keep scoring runs and keep taking wickets consistently then definitely there will be room for him in top XI. Glenn Maxwell wasn't named in 15 man ODI squad for 5 one day international matches against Sri Lanka.

Maxwell had too many opportunities to show it to cricket world how good player he is. But he failed to do it on consistent basis, Maxwell has won Australia a lot of matches. But in many matches he didn't contribute anything with bat or ball. Maxwell has got a lot of talent but he is still not able to play all format of cricket. Maxwell has been warned about his performance few times before but his career goes through the same phase every now and then.
Australia ODI squad Tour of Sri Lanka:
Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), George Bailey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood, Moises Henriques, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa.
Maxwell was very disappointed after missing out ODI tour of Sri Lanka. Glenn Maxwell said, "It is hard; I'm going to be watching on TV and seeing Australia play in coloured clothing and I'm not going to be there, but it's one of those things where it'll probably only drive me to train harder and make sure I'm there for the next tour.
"There's plenty of positives. Lots of players miss out on squads and get dropped at different times, and you see their character shine through – I'm hoping I can show mine and get back in that squad and show that I deserve to be there."
Positive side of getting Omitted from ODI squad:
Glenn Maxwell has a chance to return back to T20 squad and make it for next ODI series if he display good form in domestic cricket. After failing to make it to ODI squad, Maxwell can work hard in nets and domestic circuit and it will pave his way back to international side again. Cricket Australia has selected a 15 man squad for Australia A team and Glenn Maxwell is part of the squad. Australia A team will play India A team and South Africa A team in Quadrangular series. Australia A will play their first match against India A on August 14, 2016.
