Forced Retirement of Dilshan from ODI and T20

Thillakarathne Dilshan Forced To Retire:

Sri Lanka all rounder Thillakarathne Dilshan is forced to retire from one day international and T20 internationals. Dilshan will play his last ODI and last T20 match during current series against Australia. Sri Lanka cricket board is planning to build a squad for World Cup 2019 and decided to force Dilshan to think about retirement; so young talent can be exposed to international challenges. Dilshan was reluctant to retire earlier but his poor batting form against Australia made him think about retirement. Sri Lanka cricket team is going through a developmental stage at the moment in all formats of cricket. Since retirement of Sangakara and Jayawardene, middle order of Sri Lanka test team was exposed to vulnerabilities. Sri Lanka cricket board urged Kumar Sangakara and Mahela Jayawardene to continue playing test cricket even after their retirement. But Dilshan case is totally opposite, it is the board who is trying to get rid of Dilshan.

Dilshan Performance in ODI:

Thillakarathne Dilshan performance in ODI matches in 2015 was his best in his career. Dilshan's batting average is almost 50 in last four years. He is becoming a better player with his age, same like Misbah-ul-Haq from Pakistan. Tillakaratne Dilshan is Sri Lankan top scorer in T20 matches in 2016. Its sad that Angelo Mathews and Sri Lanka cricket team selectors are persuading Dilshan to retire when he is performing way better than any other Sri Lankan player. Dilshan's batting boomed when he was offered to open the innings. Since, Sri Lanka current ODI and T20 squad is well equipped with young talented openers, selectors don't see a reason to keep Dilshan in the team. Tillakaratne Dilshan batting average in ODI is 39.26 while he has taken 106 wickets in ODI as bowler. Dilshan batting average in T20 is 28.98 while he has taken only 7 wickets in T20. Dilshan test batting average is 40.98 and he took 39 wickets in Test matches.

Dilshan Invented Dilscoop Shot:

Cricket was once considered a gentleman game but since introduction of T20 format, it has gone crazy as. Dilshan brought aggressiveness to batting, he loved to attack pace bowlers and invented his own shot which no one thought about before. Dilshan invented Dilscoop shot, which became widely popular and other batsman started to copy it. Dilshan invented this shot during ICC World T20 in 2009, hosted in England. Technique to play this shot is get on one knee to a short pitched or good length delivery from fast or medium fast bowler and scoop it over wicket keeper head.

Dilshan To Retire From ODI and T20:

Thillakarathne Dilshan brought aggressive style of batting to Sri Lanka batting line up. He is famous for attacking pace bowlers right from start of innings. Sri Lanka never had to worry about run rate as long as he was out there. Dilshan spin bowling is very effective in shorter format of cricket. He has taken over 100 ODI wickets. Dilshan is unlucky in ODI series against Australia so far. He only scored 22 in first match and 10 in second match. Dilshan will play his final ODI on August 28, 2016 in Dambulla against Sri Lanka. Dilshan will play his last T20 match against Australia on September 9, 2016.
